Looking to grow your knowledge on vestibular testing and rehabilitation, but don’t know where to start? The American Institute of Balance (AIB) has the perfect solution for you!
Through its comprehensive Build Your Own Curriculum offering, you can develop your perfect personalized training program from 10 different comprehensive modules. Courses are held in AIB’s educational training facility, and are a great way to gain knowledge and earn CEUs. This program is ideal for anyone looking to learn and improve skills, especially:
- Audiologists
- Physicians
- Audiology Assistants
- Au.D. Students
- ARNP, PA, MA extenders
Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP) – 4 Hours
When you build your training program, keep in mind that you need to have at least one day’s worth of modules in your cart in order to check out (8 hours = 1 day). After checkout is complete, AIB will contact you to coordinate the dates of your training. Module topics include:
VideoNystagmography (VNG) – 8 Hours
Learn the practical skills needed to develop and administer the most time-efficient and diagnostically sensitive protocols for VNG. Additionally, this module includes an interpretation and reporting component, and will teach you how to describe the best test protocols with evidence-based rationale.
Rotary Chair – 4 Hours
At the conclusion of this module, you’ll be able to describe the physiological response of the VOR during rotary chair testing, demonstrate competency-administrating protocols, and interpret test results from each subtest and correlate all findings into a coherent report.
This module will teach you how to describe the physiological response of the Vestibulo-Collic Reflex (VCR), explain the parameters of amplitude and latency with a differentiation between otologic and neurologic patterns, and demonstrate competency-administrating protocols for pediatric and adult populations.
Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) – 4 Hours
The vHIT test is perhaps the easiest to perform, as it is very user-friendly and non-invasive. After finishing this module, you’ll be able to describe the physiological response of the VOR and corrective saccade, demonstrate competency-administrating protocols for patients of all ages, and better analyze test results and organize them into a coherent report.
Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER) – 4 Hours
BAER is an important component of auditory threshold determination, newborn screening, and diagnosis of auditory neuropathies and dyssynchrony. After completion of this module, you’ll be able to describe the physiological response of BAER, demonstrate competency-administrating protocols in all patient populations, and confidently interpret test results.
Electrocochleography (ECoG) – 4 Hours
Most commonly used in in the diagnostics battery for Meniere’s disease, ECoG is used to evaluate the hydro-mechanical function of the cochlea. Upon completion of this module, you’ll be able to describe the anatomical and physiological response of the ECoG, explain the parameters of action and summating potentials, and more!
Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) – 4 Hours
Comprised of 3 subtests, CDP provides significant and unique information regarding an individual’s equilibrium performance and other influences that affect postural stability. At the conclusion of this module, you’ll be able to explain the parameters of normal and abnormal patterns, demonstrate competency-administrating protocols, and confidently interpret test results.
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) – 4 Hours
BPPV is the most common form of vertigo, affecting 50% of the U.S. population over 70 years old. By completing this module, you’ll be able to describe and identify all forms of nystagmus to differentiate BPPV from other types of nystagmus; explain the parameters of nystagmus, latency, duration, and fatigue; and confidently interpret test results.
Pediatrics (Infants and Young Children) – 4 Hours
Learn how to name the most common causes of vestibular dysfunction in infants and young children. After you complete this module, you’ll know how to list maturational milestones, describe age-appropriate behavioral techniques, demonstrate competency-administrating VEMP and vHIT protocols, and more!
