Employers and Employees alike are well aware that noisy work environments can have a negative affect on the hearing health of employees and the overall safety of a workplace. You may be surprised to learn then that a noisy work environment can also cause high blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

This is according to a comprehensive study published by the CDC that found both conditions to be more common among workers that were exposed to loud noises at work. Considering that over a quarter of U.S. Workers (41 Million) report working in noisy environments, this study should be taken seriously by all employers.

If you're an employer, we encourage you to review NIOSH's guide to Reducing Noise Exposure, which covers guidance and regulations, protective equipment, noise controls, and noise level information. Employers should also encourage employees to be screened for high blood pressure and cholesterol regularly. This will allow for both the employer and employee to intervene at the first sign of an issue.
